Application for new service
Step 1: To establish service at a location that does not have an existing meter, consumers are asked to supply some specific information about themselves and their energy needs. Before calling Washington Electric Cooperative's office, please review
a list of potential questions you will be asked about your planned construction project and your energy needs.
If you have never had service with Washington Electric Cooperative, you must complete a member application, which may be obtained
online or by calling or visiting our office.
To establish service at a location that has an existing meter, please call the cooperative office.
Step 2: Engineering
The next step is to meet with our Field Engineer at the building site to go over options for installing the service. Before scheduling this meeting, the following must be completed:
- All buildings must be staked and the location of the load center in the home must be known.
- The driveway must be marked.
- The locations of the septic/leech field and well must be approved by the governing county (and preferably staked).
- If service is to a mobile home, the Ohio Mobile Home Commission Permit should already be started.
The field engineer will provide you with options and service entrance specification sheet that shows how the service should be installed, a Contribution-in-Aid-to-Construction quote (if applicable), spec drawings and instructions on how to proceed if any further steps need to be completed. Please bring a copy of the deed or survey to this meeting for easement purposes.
If Aid-to-Construction is required, a quote will be presented to the consumer stating the required amount. If an easement or government permits need obtained or Aid-to-Construction costs are required, construction plans will be held until completion of these items. Otherwise construction plans will be released to the Operations Department.
Step 3: Consumer Responsibilities
If Aid-to-Construction payments are required, they must be paid before construction of electric facilities is scheduled. There may be additional construction responsibilities, as well, that must be completed (i.e. tree trimming) before work is scheduled.
Wiring specifications for a typical entrance can be found under the
Resources tab of the home page.
Step 4: Building the line and setting the meter
Once all of the above steps and any necessary easements and permits are complete, crews will build the line, set the meter and energize the new service entrance.
